Mission Statement

Our Mission is to passionately and enthusiastically carry a message of strength and hope to anyone affected by the disease of addiction.

How We Got Our Start

In October in 2015, Matt and Josh were in detox together and they decided that they HAD to do something different. On 10/17/2015, just a few days clean and sober, they named the organization, made a commitment to one another, and began having late-night meetings to discuss their grand plans for what they thought their community needed. After experiencing treatment in northwest Ohio over and over, they noticed a lot of significant gaps in the services that were offered. Therefore, they began to plan how they would fill those gaps. They put pen to paper, and they put their boots on the ground. Their philosophy of “a new approach to an old problem” was born, and the spark of their grassroots agenda turned into a flame. Neither of them knew at the time that that flame would turn into a wildfire that their city desperately needs. It was needed so much that every year on 10/17… the day Team Recovery was born, Toledo’s mayor has officially declared that day as “Team Recovery Day”. Their goals have shifted to continue to meet the needs of their community, but their philosophy has always remained the same…..

Favorite thing about TR: How rare and unique we are. So many people and programs want to try to replicate what we have, but no matter how hard they do, it just won’t work.

What you do in your free time: I love to travel with my family, just spend time with my family in general, exercise, play golf, and learn about real estate.

Fun fact about you: I am deathly afraid of insects.

Message to someone still struggling: I know exactly where you’re at, but I want you to know that it’s possible for you to be exactly where I’m at if you want it bad enough and work at it hard enough.

Favorite thing about TR: My favorite thing about team recovery is what it represents. It’s a new approach to an old problem. We put the needs and wants of our community first And work to creates change that’s needed. We are advocates for growth and change and represent possibility

What you do in your free time: In my free time I enjoy spending quality time with my son, Friends and family. My soul comes alive when I am adventuring weather that is kayaking hiking riding bikes or swimming Or just exploring and traveling to experience fresh and then places in cultures. I also love and find fulfillment in doing activities that channel my fears so I can stand In my courage that could be anything from skydiving to mountain biking or white water rafting.

Fun fact about you: I hate wearing shoes. I consider them foot prisons.

Message to someone still struggling: Life never puts a limit on second chances as long as we’re breathing we have a chance to change and live the life we always dreamed of. The life that you hope to have is right on the other side of a decision to step into possibility. Keep trying and offer yourself Grace. Just keep trying!

Favorite thing about TR: is the common purpose and genuine comradery we all found in helping other people to choose recovery. And the bond and joy we found in doing that.

What you do in your free time: playing chess, listening to music, and reading about history, politics, and philosophy.

Message to someone still struggling: is to Give Yourself A Break!!! Figure out a way to allow yourself to sit still and be UNCOMFORTABLE. The uncomfortability is progress and is NECESSARY for progress and change. Don’t give up
